It is really nice to have my own car. It was really lame when I needed my mom to drive me places (if I needed to be dropped off so Mom could still have the car). I'm not fan of having a car payment, but the car itself is very nice to have.

Bleh. You're all too right. Gas, new tire, new wind shield wipers, registration, emissions testing, general maintenance... Not to mention actually buying the thing.

buying it is probably the most expensive part of the whole thing, but the rest of it is pretty expensive too

I will likely never buy a new car--the value drops too much. I'll just get used cars that are still good.

That's a good plan. You can get plenty of new-ish cars for cheap. I've driven newish cars before. The truck I currently drive is really new, less that 3,000 miles.

in my money management class we were told it is always smarter to get a used car. payments are less, and the car is generally in good shape.

Normally, I leave 40 minutes before I need to start, but it doesn't take me that long to get there unless traffic's bad. I like to have a little time to account for bad traffic, and so I can put on some sunscreen before work. When I need to leave during rush hour, however, I leave an hour early.

getting to work early is always nice. lets you know you have time to get a drink and run to the bathroom, and in your case put on sunscreen, and be all ready for work.

It takes about 45ish minutes with no traffic, 1-1.5 hours with traffic. Norm in the morning is about an hour.
