Alright so after thinking about it I see we have decided on the forum which will work I'm kind of said we can't use skype because that would be a lot of fun but oh well alright now the next question is what type of gaming we want to. I don't mean the modern or medieval but old school or new. the basic difference is that old school is more basic. In the newer game there is a lot of rolling of dice to do things. I am leaning more towards to old school because its more of the type of that kelli is use to it's not advanced as what the rest of us are use to. Now I think I"m really the only power gamer so old school gaming should be okay with and has my vote. Now brandon is right the modern system that I have is a post apocalyptic one so a lot of mutations and end of the world type of world. I'll see if I can find a more modern system one with a magic system preferably. Now what I would really like to know is what type of modern system we are talking about, are we talking more about cyber punk, real world modern, post apocalyptic, space opera, or something else.

I'm not certain what you mean by "space opera." Wikipedia defines it as: "...a subgenre of speculative fiction or science fiction that emphasizes romantic, often melodramatic adventure, set mainly or entirely in space, generally involving conflict between opponents possessing powerful (and sometimes quite fanciful) technologies and abilities." Is that what you mean
Does cyber punk = steam punk? If so, I'd go for that. Really, I'd go for anything that doesn't end up feeling like a first-person shooter video game (which I don't think any category would necessarily turn into, it's what the post apocalyptic category made me think of).

alright so I got a suggestion of what we are going to play its part of the jags rpg system www.jagsrpg.org/index.html is where you can pick up the base rules. We can play the c-13 scenario you can download it at www.boardgamegeek.com/rpgitem/54698/c-13-the-thirteen-colonies . This is the introduction ( Steam Punk? Modern Day Magic? Historical? C-13 is some of all of these. Technology stops around 1940 but air transit is handled by blimp. Out on the frontier a musket is more reliable than machine-tooled parts. Ships like the Titanic ply the seas and telegraph is still a good way to send a letter. There aren't elves but there are mutations, the Tribes (half-humans), and other races. You can ride a motorcycle with a .45 on your hip looking at the world through a cool set of shades. You can fight a boarding action thousands of feet above the Art-Deco Metropolis of New York City (still called New Amsterdam by many!) You can spell-duel with summoned demons or sell your soul in an illegal Atlantic City casino. "Marco describes C-13 as a magic/technological mix with steampunk sensibilities and detailed character archetypes. It is an alternate modern day earth where North America's eastern seaboard is still divided into 13 Colonies. The New World is one infused with magic. Demon powered cars fill the streets of the gothic metropolitan cities. On the frontier half-men/half-animals make war against the colonial army (which defends itself with gattling gun-filled zeppelins and steam-driven tripod war-machines). It is a world where buildings have spirits, evil lurks in the shadows, and mankind has the power to change the universe--but perhaps not the vision." ) that is the basic description of it any question then post them or if you want to do something else then tell me what you want.

That would work for me as well, but I must be honest, it is more magic-heavy than I prefer.

Well if I knew what exactly you where looking for I might be able to match it closer. But all I have to work on is modern if you could be more specific on what you want. I know jason and kelli are up for anything kelli leaning more towards steam punk. Erick and brandon are the two that I don't know what they specifically like or want. Brandon is usually a medieval spell caster of some type and that's all I have to work with. I mean do we want a modern sublime horror like alice in wonderland where you all journey through insanity? or post apocalyptic where you can go into ruins trying to find artifacts from the old world to sell or to further your exploration? More details would be helpful.

I would LOVE a modern sublime horror, but I don't think the other forum-goers would enjoy it. I'd be willing to try cyber punk, or space opera. I bet a Star Trek based game would be fun too.
Whatever is decided, I will go along with.

So long as it's fun, and I get to run around and perhaps cause some mayhem, I'm okay. And something to shoot with, whether gun, majic, bow, or some kind of artillery, is fine by me.

So, how do we get started? (I realize we may not be able to start immediately)

Alright so this is what I got what system we are going we are going to use. go to www.starfrontiersman.com/ to get the base rules. go to the digital remastered and get alpha dawn. Don't read the adventure as we are going to play through that and maybe some of the modules to start. Now if you got to star frontiersman area its a fan zine and I'm willing to include any race from those so look through them if you don't like the basic ones. Start talking about character concepts here and ask any questions. As to starting once we get everything figured out we can start.

Well, I think I'll be a human medic with a secondary skill in martial arts. My first name will be Pandora, and I'm not sure what my last name will be.
How do we figure out the STR/STA, etc if we don't have dice with more than 6-sides?

My first roll was a 7. My character's going to be such a wuss. Good thing the rules say that rolls of 1-10 = a score of 30, or my character wouldn't even be able to pick up a chair.

Maybe weak in strength, but I am curious to see your other stats. Probably really high!
