I like both of those hymns Melinda. Well, Erick, as for Descartes view of what knowledge is, I disagree to some extent. True somethings, like atoms, can not be seen by our eyes because they are so small, yet they do exist. However, our knowledge about them is not complete. Also, in some unusual instances, like a person being seeing things that are not there because of being extremely tired or something, then at that point one could not rely on their sight for a knowledge. Other than these instances, if we can not know things for certain because of our senses, why do we have them? I know that this computer exists because I can feel it and see it. Another sense we need to rely on is faith. It takes faith to turn on a light, a computer, drive a car, sleep, eat and, I'd say, to breathe. I know that breathing is involuntary, but really, we do at times have the choice to breathe or not to breathe, especially when someone cut the cheese!

for the purpose of the thought experiment, you were to assume that your senses were granted by the "daemon". You need not necessarily have eyes in order to see, but you believed that you did, and you couldn't prove it either way. The ramifications of this experiment are that just because you live in a world that you "understand", your "knowledge" is not necessarily true nor false.
In other words, just because something is obvious, that does not mean it is true. It doesn't mean it's false either. It doesn't mean anything, and shouldn't affect your belief about the factuality of it.
Another example would be the non-lucid dream example: When you dream, do you know that you are dreaming? Are all the impossibilities that you experience counterintuitive to your dreamself? Can you prove to anyone in your dream that you are dreaming? Can you prove to me right now that I'm not dreaming?

Well, one possible way to prove that you're not dreaming is that you are reading this and it stays the same. According to some research I did, while dreaming, words often change between glances. So, as a test, read the next series of words in caps, then look away for a second, then look back. ARE YOU DREAMING? Did they stay the same? If they did, then you are awake. If they changed, welcome to dreamworld. I know I'm awake. Are you?

William: Nor do I, on a few issues, but this particular thought experiment is sound.
Jason: You forgot to include dream logic. When one dreams, the most insane things make perfect sense: what you claim to be a good test to see whether or not I'm dreaming might actually be an amalgamation of various thoughts I had during the day, and might be totally inapplicable in whatever my reality is. What makes this argument especially convincing, for me at least, is that I have had arguments in my dreams with dream-people about whether or not I am dreaming, and the people in my dreams were always convinced I was actually awake.
I would also like to note, in case anyone doubts, I do not believe that I am dreaming, I just LOVE playing devil's advocate. ;D

... if only there was a way to quote songs, as in instrumental songs, it would make life so very intersting, becase there are many songs that i would have put up here already. couple of examples... eine kline nachtmusik, or the imperial march, or indiana jones...

and bara bap bara's. Most old music is in the public domain, if I'm not mistaken; meaning that you can legally download it for free. Ein Klein GermanthingImperial MarchI will find a way to embed them onto the forum itself, but it might take some time. *EDIT* I figured out a rather ineffective way of making it work. Just go to the Test Forum and wait a few seconds.

Say, Erick, how did you do that? And would it be possible to change the song for different parts of the forum? Like, Eine Kliene Nachtmusick for one part, and other songs for other parts? And, like I asked, how did you do that?

Yes, I could have it do that for different forums and such, but not for different threads.
put this:
<script type="text/javascript"> <!-- document.write('<embed src="ENTER MUSIC ADDRESS HERE" autostart="true" hidden="true" />'); //--> in the footer of whatever board you are putting it on. And make sure to put the full url of the music down.
Oh yeah, I took down (see commented out) the ein Klein Germannachthaghingmadoo music.

Remind me how to get to the footer? And it has to be from an online source, yes?
