Erk? Where are you? Sarala still could not reach Erk through their mental link, or even sense him at all. That really worried her; he was just there with them, and now she couldn't sense him anywhere. What could that mean? Sarala hated to think of the possibilities. Erk! Can you hear me? Sarala, Kor, and Emiko were searching everywhere for him. How could he have just disappeared? Maybe Doelcm and Tarak will have some idea of what to do, Sarala thought. Why aren't they back yet? They've been gone a long time. By this point, Sarala was fairly deep in the nearby woods, calling for Erk both with her voice and through their link. Something russeled in the undergrowth. Sarala looked over; maybe it was Doelcm and Tarak, or even Erk. As she waited, someone did appear. But it was a soldier, not any of her friends. Disappointed but still hopeful, Sarala asked him, "Are Doelcm and Tarak finished talking to your leader?" The soldier gave no response. She tried again. "You know, the girl with red-tipped hair and the guy with her? They went with another of of your men to talk to your leader . . . ?" Apparently this man didn't know anything about it. "How about a guy with blue-ish-purple hair? Have you seen him?" Once again, the soldier did not answer. "Nevermind," Sarala sighed, questioning the soldier's mental capacities, and turning to leave. But out of the corner of her eyes, she saw he was finally doing something. She turned arouond just in time to get a blow-dart shot into her neck. The tranquilizer was very strong, and within moments, Sarala was out cold.

Erk woke the next day, feeling both refreshed and stiff. He stretched his muscles and worked out the kinks, then walked back over to the table where he had left the papers. He had finally found the paper he was searching for, after again using the power stored within the knife's gem. He still didnt' understand completely how it worked, but he was grateful that it did. He picked up the papers, then using the power of the gem, read what was written on them. "Travel to the east until you reach the burning pillar, and from there head north until the sky changes color. Once there, use the power of the frothen stone to guide you to the cyrstal." Not exactly the most specific directions in the world. What exactly was a frothen stone, anyway? Erk guessed he was going to have to find out at some point. Gathering the few bits of cloth he'd managed to find still in one piece, he wrapped the papers in them and headed east. The sun was still just rising, so he knew which was he was headed, assuming that the rotation of this planet was the same as earth. Just to be sure, he placed his hand on the stone in his knife and called up the arrow again. It spun in a circle, then pointed the direction he had been walking, east. Well, he'd guessed that one right. So he set off, walking at a decent pace, making sure he didnt' tire himself out. After all, he had no idea how long he would be walking, nor who or what he might meet on the way. After several hours of traveling, he was starting to get hungry. Erk looked around, but he couldn't see anything that looked like it might be edible. He stood there for a minute, thinking on the problem, when suddenly, from out behind one of the few trees remaining, an animal of some sort appeared. Erk looked over at it, and raised the knife in front of him, placing the cloth on the ground. The animal stood on two legs, had dark brown skin, with two forearms that reach about two feet forward and ended in hooks. It's mouth went out into a sort of snout, and sharp teeth poked out from various angles. All in all, it reminded Erk of a small raptor, like in the movie Jurrasic Park. It seemed to move like that, too. Quickly, Erk glanced around, just in case it hunted that way, too, but there seemed to be nothing else around him. Looking back at the creature, he could see it studying him. Erk stood still, not certain what to do. Suddenly the creature darted forward and Erk jumped to the side, but not before one of the teeth grazed his arm. "Ow!!!" Erk grabbed his arm as it started to bleed. The cut wasn't deep, but it hurt a fair bit. Pain turned to anger in Erk's eyes, and he looked back towards the creature, which was getting ready to make another pass. It wasn't the most agile thing he had ever met, but it was fast. Apparently it wasn't used to it's prey dodging it, either. Erk jumped forward and jabbed the knife into the side of the creature, and a blue flame exploded from the knife, zapping the animal. It shrieked, and then flew then feet as the force of the energy in the knife threw it into the air. It hit the ground and bounced, then started to try to regain it's feet. Erk ran over and slashed the knife across it's neck, and the power within the knife once again came coursing out through the blade and into the creature, killing it instantly. It gave one last moan, then stopped moving. Erk stood there, panting. He looked at the creature, which was smoking slightly from the energy that had been pumped into it, then back at his knife. Amazingly enough, it looked as though it had never even been used. Giving it an odd glance, he crouched next to the animal. 'Well,' he thought, 'guess that takes care of my food problem. As long as it isn't poisonous, anyway.'

Alira woke gradually, head throbbing and the left side of her neck burning. With difficulty, she shifted into a sitting position. She still had the metal around her chest and arms that Doelcm had put on her after releasing her from the pit. Having her torso encased in metal made movement awkward. Trying to blow her brown hair out of her eyes, Alira looked around. She was in an iron bar cage. Doelcm was laying beside her, just starting to shift and wake up. Beyond the thick bars of the cage, Alira saw that they were underground, in a corner of a huge room. The walls of the room were of rough-hewn stone, with a few pockets of soil. She could even make out tree roots in some of the pockets. There were many people in there, about fifteen soldiers that she could see and a smaller number of men dressed in robes with many pockets. Most of the robed men were sitting at desks that had a box on top. They were pressing buttons on a thin rectangular thing and staring at the glowing front of the box on their desk. Out of the corner of her eye, Alira saw Doelcm sitting up. "I wonder where we are." Doelcm stated. Offering the little information she had, Alira told her that they were underground, then immediately felt like a fool for saying something that Doelcm would have already figured out. Doelcm just nodded and gave Alira what little information she had. "We seem to be a lab or control center or something. I wish I was close enough to read the computer screens." A group of soldiers walked up to one of the room's doors. One of the men put his hand on a pad and the pad emitted a small glow. After the glow died, the door opened. "Hmm," Doelcm said softly, nodding to herself, "Looks like the doors have a hand scanner. Good thing I can make my own doors." Alira looked between Doelcm and the "hand scanner" wishing she knew what that meant. She also wanted to know what a "computer" was, but now was not the time to ask. If she still had her powers, Alira would simply wait for someone to open the cage door, stop time before the person had time to do whatever it was they were going to do, and escape. Without her powers, she felt very helpless and vulnerable. There was only one thing to do. Clearing her throat, she turned to Doelcm. "Have you decided if you'll accept me as your skolin?" "Skolin?" "Yes. That's what I'll be if you let me swear myself to you." Doelcm put her hand over her chin and mouth, appearently trying to figure out how much she trusted her former enemy. It was not long before she came to a decision. "Alright, I'll accept you." Alira's relief showed on her face far more than she would have liked. The other Generals would have been very suprised if they had known how little their former companion minded swearing herself to the girl she had been so intent on making her servant. But as Alira had explained to Doelcm, the weak of her people always swore themselves to the strong. It was a way that the weak protected themselves. Powerless, rejected by her former Rotol (what Lucrecia was and what Doelcm is about to become), and in a nearly incomprehensible world, Alira felt very much in need of protection. Alira looked down at the metal sheath that still encased her torso. "In order to do it properly, I need to not be bound." "Oh, yeah. Sorry." Doelcm ran her finger from the top of the sheath to the bottom, cutting the metal. After she did the same to the back of the sheath, Doelcm pulled the two pieces off of Alira, being careful to not let them clatter on the metal floor of their cage. Their captors had not yet noticed that they were awake, and both women wanted it to stay that way. Once free, Alira knelt on one knee in front of Doelcm. In the slightly stiff, formal voice of someone reciting something, she said, "I, Alira of Monoth, swear to be the skolin of Lady Doelcm for as long as she will have me." Looking up at Doelcm, she whispered, "Now you say, 'I accept you and swear to protect and provide for you in the manner that I see fit for as long as I keep you as my skolin.' " Doelcm repeated the words it was done.

(Playing Tarak) Tarak blinked and opened his eyes, then squeezed them shut again as a bright light flooded his vision. "He's awake," he heard a voice say. 'Great, just great,' he thought. He slowly opened his eyes, allowing them to adjust to the light. He could see that he was in some kind of chamber, which, judging from the dirt and the roots in the wall, was underground. He was lying on his back, and when he tried to move his arms, legs, and head, he found that he couldn't. Apparently he was strapped down, as he could feel something digging into his limbs when he tried to raise them. Twisting his head slightly, as much as he could, and straining his eyes, he looked around the room. He could see a few tables scattered around with people in white coats standing around them. Strange items were scattered on the tables, including several that produced a strange, blueish light, and others that the men poked at and made strange clicking and tapping noises. Seeing he was awake, the man who had spoken before had gathered several of the other men, who now stood around him. "How are you feeling?" one of them asked him. "Mm . . . like I haven't eaten in days, and then got hit in the head." "Interesting . . ." said one of the men as he scribbled down something on a piece of paper using what looked like a very straight and shiny stick made of metal. "How does your left hand feel?" asked another man. Tarak flexed his hand, and noticed that it felt rather strange, almost . . . light. "It feels . . . weird. Like it weighs nothing." "Good, good." The man continued to write on the paper with his metal stick. "Okay, now I'm going to put something into your hand, and I want you to squeeze it," said the second man again. The man reached over and picked up a rock from off one of the tables and then placed it in Tarak's hand. Tarak didn't know why he should squeeze the rock, and he hesitated to do so. When he didn't squeeze the rock, a third man who was holding what appeared to be a rectangle of some sort of material pushed something on it, and the table under him instantly grew very hot. Eyes widening in shock and pain, Tarak squeezed the rock with everything he had. To his surprise, rather than digging into his hand, it crumbled to dust. Tarak blinked, unable to see what had happened, but he could feel the powder in his hand. What had just happened? "Most remarkable indeed," said the first man, his metal stick moving across the paper even faster now. "The results are coming along just as we'd hoped," said the second man to the third with the dark rectangle. "Indeed they are," replied the third man. "What . . ." Tarak coughed as he tried to think through his dry throat. "What results?" "Why, my boy, we're changing you." "What?" "We're enhancing you, making you stronger. See, we need someone to be our hero, the leader of our forces, and you are most definitely qualified. We've seen the power you and your friends weild, and that combined with enhanced strenght will make you unstoppable." Tarak almost told them that he didn't have any powers, but a thought surfaced in his mind. What exactly did these men intend to use him for? And where were the others? "What happened to my friends? And could I get a drink of water?" "Hey, Slemta, get some water, will you?" "Yes sir," said one of the younger men working at a table, who then hurried off through a door. "Your friends are fine. They're being kept in a waiting room, nice and comfortable. We're sorry we didn't talk to you first, but we're kind of under a time-crunch here, so we went ahead and got started on you. Now you get some rest, and we'll conduct a few more tests later." The young man came back with his water and helped him drink it, and then hurried off again, leaving Tarak alone with his thoughts. He had only partially understood what it was that the man had been telling him, but from the sounds of it, it seemed it wasn't the best thing. And he didn't quite believe the man about where Doelcm and Alira were being kept. Tarak didn't fully understand what was going on, but for now he decided to play it cool and wait for his best chance to get out of here and go find the girl he knew he now cared more for than his own life.

Erk sat next to a small fire he had lit using a little bit of ingenuity. He had tried to use the knife, but to no avail, so he used various methods he had seen and tried before and finally got a fire started. He had cooked the meat of the animal over it, and found that it tasted somewhat like pork. It was rather chewy, like jerky, but had a rich flavor. Now he sat staring into the fire, wondering what adventures the next day would bring. He had travelled a good distance that day, but he had no idea how far he would have to travel before he reached this burning pillar, whatever it was. He assumed it would be exactly what it sounded like it was, but as he had been finding out, one could no longer assume things would be as they should be or sounded like they were. Oh well. He picked up a stick and started poking the fire, deep in thought. Suddenly, something burst through the bushes next to him and stood staring at him. Erk jumped up as it came though the bushes and pulled out his knife, then stood there, looking at it. It stared back at him. It was a little . . . something. It resembled what he could only discribe as a combination of a dog and a monkey. Strange, yet it seemed to do okay. Yet he could see an intelligence in it's eyes. Not much, but some. Enough that it understood that he wasn't going to harm it right off. He saw it's eyes dart towards the strips of meat he had hanging over the fire, then back to him, then back again. Erk realized that it was hungry. "You hungy, little guy? Hungry, are ya? Well, let's see what we can do about that." Erk leaned down and picked up one of the strips that had been cooling on a rock next to the fire. The little creature's eyes watched his hand as it moved the meat, following its every move. Erk held the meat out in front of him, and after a few seconds, the creature lifted a paw and grabbed the meat, then sat back on its hind legs and began to eat it. Erk sat back down and watched the little thing, smiling. The little animal finished the strip of meat, then looked at Erk. He picked up another piece and held it next to him. The little animal came over, slowly at first, then quickly and grabbed the meat, again sitting on its hind legs while it ate it. Erk slowly reached out a hand towards the creature while it ate, then slowly rubbed its head. It made a purring sound and pushed its head up against his hand. Erk continued to rub its head, while silently laughing. "You need a name, little fella. I think I'm going to call you Nirk." The animal, now named Nirk, looked up at him and seemed to smile. "Yep, that's who you are now. Nirk. You gonna stay with me, Nirk? Just like they always do in the books?" The animal just kept looking at him. Erk laughed and continued to rub its head and looked back at the fire, thinking that tomorrow might not be so bad after all.

"So what do we do now?" Alira asked her new rotol. "Don't know yet. The first priority is obviously to find Tarak and escape, but I also want to find out what's going on." Before Alira could respond, four men, one scientist and three soldiers, walked up to the cage. "Good morning." Doelcm greeted them with false cheerfulness, sounding like she was unaware that she had been kidnapped and was being kept in a cage. Alira was only a little surprised, but it made the scientist loose his train of thought. After taking a moment to gather his thoughts, the scientist spoke. "I'll get to the point. We have something we want to accomplish. If you will help us, you will be amply rewarded. Are you interested?" Doelcm doubted very much that she would interested in helping anyone who felt the need to drug and kidnap people for "volunteers". But she did want to know what was going on. "There are way too many holes in that invitation for me to give you a good answer," she said, "What is it you're trying to do? What would you expect us to do? And how would we be rewarded?"

Erk awoke the next morning, feeling ready to face the day. His new companion, Nirk, was sleeping beside him. Erk sat up and stretched, then looked at the fire, which had died during the night. He had placed the meat strips inside the cloths he had brought, making them into a makeshift carrying case. He reached inside and pulled out a strip and began nawing on it. Nirk woke up and looked over at him, smelling the meat. Erk smiled and pulled out a second stirp, tearing off about half of it and giving it to the animal. Erk still wasn't sure what it was, but he decided to give it a name as a species. After thinking about it, Erk finally came up with a name. "Nirk, I've decided that you're a mony (rhymes with pony)." Nirk looked up at him, gave him his odd smile-like look, then went back to the meat. Erk smiled again, then set about cleaning up and getting ready to move on. He picked up the bag and slung it over one shoulder, threw a bit of dirt on the fire and then stirred it with his boot, checked that his knife was still in its sheath, then looked down at Nirk, who was liking his paws clean. "All ready to go?" Nirk made a strange chirping noise and looked at Erk expectantly. "Alrighty, then, let's get going." Erk set off, heading again in the direction of the rising sun, ready to face the day.

Shilm woke up at the sound of metal hitting metal.
"What is going on? Where am I?" Thought Shilm to himself.
"Oh good you are awake." Responded a voice from the shadows.
" Who are you? What do you want from me and my friends?" Demanded Shilm.
" You are an impressive one, Shilm, you are able to go invisible which is great but we have our ways to find spies. If you wish to be a real soldier I suggest that you consider helping us." Said the man.
"What do you want? I don't think that I can trust you. You were the ones that have been keeping secrets from everyone." Yelled Shilm.
"Trust!? You should be the last one to talk about trust you were the one spying on us weren't you?" Said the voice calmly.
Shilm was looking in to the shawdows trying to locate the voice. He was filled with an uneasy feeling due to the concern of his friends. More light was needed so Shilm created energy balls and unleashed them towards the area where Shilm believed the man to be. The light energy went flying out of Shilms hands and hit a wall.
"What are you doing? Calm down you will get no where fast." Said the man in the shadows.
" Tell me where my friends are before I destroy this place." Threated Shilm as he gathered energy.
"Sir, I detect a massive amount of energy and heat being emited from him." Said a different voice.
"Perfect, This will help us understand more of his powers." Said the man.
Shilm gathered more and more energy, until the room was completly lit, and Shim noticed that he was in a room with mirrors near the top of the room. Shilm prepared to unleash all of energy when a tranqualizing dart was shot from above and hit Shilm which quicly put him to sleep.
"Hmm...if we are able to figure out how he is able to create such power then we maybe able to create weapons that do the same thing." Said the man

The portal that was used to send the soldiers closed. Lucrecia had sent orders to the Temor and his soldiers to find Doelcm and Sarala and to bring them to Earth.
Temor walked the plains and saw there was a man that was able to multiply himself.
Temor's soldiers engaged Shadow. Unknown to Shadow his allies were kidnapped by some of the locals.
Temor Commanded to his Soldiers " Do not kill that man bring him to me, with the right persuation he would make an excellent soldier for My Queen.

Sarala awoke in a dark room. Little circles were stuck all over her forehead and arms, with wires connecting them to a slowly beeping machine next to her. Trying to sit up, she found that she was held down by thick belts. "What's going on?" Sarala asked the darkness as she struggled against the bonds. No answer. In an effort to escape, Sarala began cutting away the bonds with a focused beam of light. The machine started beeping furiously. "If you want to stay awake, I suggest you stop that," came a voice from the blackness. Startled, Sarala did stop. "Who are you? Why am I here?" "And where are we going?" the voice joked. One light switched on, and a man in a white coat advanced the table on which Sarala was strapped. "Doctor Levesti, at your service." Sarala's nerves grated at the mockery. She was a princess on her own planet! . . . or had been. She wasn't sure what she was now. Interrupting her thoughts, the doctor continued. "You are here because my colleagues and I wish to study you and your remarkable powers. Of course, until now, we were not sure your powers matched those of your friend, what's his name? Shilm? Anyway, I can see that that worry was unnecessary. Once we understand how your powers work, you will be made a leader in our army." "Lead your army! For what purpose?" "Let's worry about that when the time comes, shall we? For now, let's just see what you can do." Removing a few of the belts, the doctor freed Sarala enough to sit up and move her arms, but not get off the table. For the rest of the day, the former princess was run through a series of tests requiring her to make illusions, go invisible, create balls of light, etc. Throughout it all, Sarala did her best to not show the true extent of her powers. Weak illusions, short periods of invisibility, and faint lights would hopefully put the doctor off his guard, enabling her escape.

"What are we trying to do? We are trying to accomplish the most heroic and noble of deeds. We are going to liberate the settlement above us and rule it the way it should be." The scientist waited for Doelcm and Alira's reactions. Doelcm forced herself to not look skeptical. She had seen the settlement and met with it's leader. The people seemed happy and healthy, the leader was friendly even to the low ranking soliders, and all in all, Doelcm thought it unlikely that the place needed liberating. Doelcm glanced over at Alira. She had an expression of mild indifference, giving Doelcm little idea of what she thought. "So what about my other two questions?" The scientist looked a little put out over the girl's lack of reaction, but not for long. "We want you and that boy you were with to be generals in our army." At the mention of generals, Doelcm looked over at Alira. Alira had a pained expression on her face, obviously remembering how she used to be a general in Lucrecia's army and why she was one no longer. The scientist didn't notice this; he was only looking at Doelcm. He continued without a pause. "As for your reward, after we liberate the settlement, you will be given land, money, and perhaps a few of our defeated enemies as slaves." He smiled at the thought of slaves. Back to buisness, he looked at Doelcm squarely and said, "So, are you in?" Doelcm returned his look and said, "I want to see Tarak first."

Shilm once again was awakining to a dark room.
a voice from the shadows said. "Ah, Shilm you are awake now. My name is Doctor Levesti, and I'm encharge of studying Sarala, and you. There is a problem though I believe that Sarala is holding her power back so we are going to have a little experiment."
"What kind of experiment!" Demanded Shilm.
Shilm was taken by soldiers and placed in a cage that was surrounded by savage animals and beast.
"It will be up to Sarala to save you. That is if she does care."
In the different room Sarala was released and told that if she wanted to help her friend she must use all of her abilities to save him.
Shilm was going to begin to release a blast of energy, but remember that they would put him to sleep, so he erected and invisble field of light which protected him from the sleeping darts. Shilm then pretended to fall asleep, so as to trick the enemy, and to await Sarala.

"What do I do.......I don't know if I will be able to keep this up for much longer" thought Shadow. Why is this cause so hard to fight against? Maybe the dream I had was letting me know that I needed to join Lucretcia's arm.... Just then Shadow got shot with a tranquilizer dart by one of lord temors men.
As Shadow woke up he felt very light headed and surprised because he thought that the Grongen elders had prepared him for any kind of herbal attack. Shadow then looked up to see lord temor standing right in front of him.
"What is your name stranger?" Temor inquired. "My name is not important but if you must call me something then my name is Shadow" said Shadow " Why do you persist to try to give me trouble Shadow?" "I work with who I think is the strongest" "Well what do you think now?" Shadow had to think about this one. The battle he was wagging was obviously not one that would win. What if Temor and Lucretcia lost though? Everyone that he was working with right now were working too slow if they had any chance now to beat Lucretcia. He would do it, he wold join this side of evil. Shadow only cared that he thought he was on the side that would win and if Lucretcia lost then he would claim something that would make everything right with the friends that he just made. "I will join your side Temor" "Are you sure because I will kill anyone who betrays me" "I am sure" "Well then I guess you should meet Lucretcia and tell her yourself" Just as he had said this a portal opened and Temor beckoned him to go through. Shadow followed Temor into the portal.
The thing was Shadow didn't even feel bad about the decision he just made......

Erk and Nirk continued on through the forest. They had been travelling for several hours without encountering anything, which Erk thought was slightly strange. They stopped every while to make sure they were still on the right track, comparing the direction they were headed with which way the arrow in the knife's gem pointed, correcting their direction as necessary. Finally, after they had been travelling for several hours, they came to what appeared to be an old pillar, standing in the middle of nowhere. They stopped by it and looked at it. Nirk began to scamper around it and explore it, while Erk looked at it, studying it from his farther vantage point. "Well, it's a pillar, but it doesn't seem to be burning. I wonder if this is the one, or if it is just a random pillar." Nirk came back and sat down by him, having found nothing of interest. Erk looked about him and saw that the sun was setting. He decided to make camp that night next to the pillar, and then continue searching the next day. As he was setting camp up, which took about five minutes, the last of the sun's rays caught the pillar, which suddenly seemed to explode in flames. Erk jumped back in surprise, and Nirk began running around, yelping like he was himself on fire. Erk stared at the pillar, which had been cold and dormant just a few minutes ago and now burned as though it would explode. Flames lept from it, creating a dazzling display of light, but there was very little heat. Entranced, Erk walked closer. He was still holding his knife in his hand, which he had been using to cut down some tree limbs to help make a covering for him that night, should it decide to rain. Suddenly, an arm of flame leaped out and landed on the blue gem in his knife. Erk jerked back, but the flame was absorbed by the gem, which glowed brightly. The pillar continued to burn, and now the light coming from the gem glowed to match its brilliance. Erk watched in fascination, entranced by the light. With a large flash, both the pillar and the gem went out, though a glow remained in the gem. Erk continued to stare at the gem for a long time until he fell asleep that night, wondering what had happened and wondering what else would happen to him on this journey.

Lucreacia on Earth was waiting for Temor to return with Doelcm and Sarala. Her Kingdom was growing rapidly her Castle was almost completed and her army was growing with every passing minute. The days were darker, and the night we so dark that it seem that light didn't even exist.
"I love the cold feel of the darkness. Soon the whole galaxy will be blanketed with a beautiful sky of black. Oh, I see...those earthling don't give up too easily. There are those that don't give into the darkness, and they have the same look that Sarala, Erk, and Shilm have their eyes are filled with something.....I don't quite know what it is, but there nothing to worry about they are easily disposed of."
Behind Lucrecia a portal opened and Temor and Shadow walked out.
"I see that you didn't bring me those that I asked for!" Yelled Lucrecia
"Please! My queen allow me to explain this man has a great strenth, and with some of our powers he may be even more powerful than Doelcm." Pleaded Temor.
" Alright...Temor, I shall allow him to join us, but he must prove himself. You go and stop those earthling that try to stand in my way, get rid of them, and then I shall grant you more power from the darkness."
Shadow walked out of Lucrecia's throne room without saying anything. Lucrecia just stood in her place as she saw shadow walk out, as the door to the throne room close she said to Temor.
"If he betrays us, or if he is useless I will kill you and him"
