Yeah, it does. Not necessarily with the set, but it is a percussion instrument. Technically, a percussion instrument is anything that you hit to make noise.

Well, the clapper inside the bell is striking the cowbell from the inside. That is, assuming a cowbell works like a regular bell.

true suppose taht it is being hit. it is just hitting itself, instead of you hitting it.

"Percussion instruments are music instruments played by being struck, shaken, rubbed, or scraped, hence the 'percussive' name." - Wikipedia
I think that should answer the question.

Well, typically, a music cowbell is struck by some object on the outside, like a drum stick. Though, I would hit it against the side of the conga, since I used one hand for the cowbell and one hand for the congas. Got pretty good with my one hand.

A real cowbell is different. We don't play real cowbells. We play musical cowbells.

They come in different sizes and tunes. They're made specifically for music. You'd be surprised at some of the quality and design of some of them.

I can believe that. They can get big. I've never seen a cowbell that big, then, then again, it would be pretty hard to play a cowbell that big.

it wasnt a cowbell, twas a hand bell. that big, down to teeny tiny, so that you could barely hear those as well, since they were so small.
